How Far in Advance Should You Start Packing to Move?

The honest answer is 'sooner than you think, and a little each day.' Packing in a single weekend is possible for a studio and miserable for anything bigger.

Studio or 1-Bedroom: Start 1 Week Out

Fifteen to thirty totes' worth of stuff. A week of evenings, one zone a night, is comfortable. Book your totes to arrive about a week before move day.

2-Bedroom: Start 2 Weeks Out

Thirty-five to fifty totes. Begin with the second bedroom, closets, and decor, and you'll never feel behind. Totes delivered 10–14 days ahead.

3–4 Bedroom House: Start 3 to 4 Weeks Out

Fifty-five to a hundred-plus totes, and the basement and garage always take longer than expected. Start there. Get totes 3–4 weeks before move day.

What to Do First, Regardless of Size

Book movers or a truck, reserve any building elevator, confirm your tote delivery date, and start a labeled 'open first' pile. Then pack the rooms you use least.

Book your tote delivery for the right lead time — we'll size the package to your home.

The Short Version

Studio: one week. Two-bedroom: two weeks. House: three to four, starting with the basement and garage. Book supplies and the truck first, then pack least-used rooms first.
