How Long Does It Take to Pack a House?

Packing time depends more on how much you own than on square footage, but here are workable estimates for an average household doing it themselves, a few hours a day.

Studio or 1-Bedroom: 1 to 2 Days

Roughly 8–14 hours total. One focused weekend does it, though spreading it across a few evenings is less exhausting.

2-Bedroom: 3 to 5 Days

About 15–25 hours. Two evenings a night for a week, or a long weekend plus a couple of follow-up evenings for the kitchen and bathroom.

3–4 Bedroom House: 1 to 3 Weeks

Fifty-plus hours, and the basement, garage, and attic are the wild cards — they can each take a full day you didn't budget for. Start there.

What Changes the Number

Kids and pets slow it down. Clutter and deferred decluttering slow it down a lot. Having supplies on hand from day one speeds it up — there's no momentum lost to store runs when the totes are already there.

The Short Version

Studio: a day or two. Two-bedroom: most of a week. House: one to three weeks, with the basement and garage as the biggest unknowns. Declutter first, and have supplies ready.
