How to Pack a 3-Bedroom House for Moving (Room-by-Room)

A three-bedroom house holds a lot — usually 55 to 75 totes' worth — and packed badly it becomes a frantic final week. Spread over about two weeks, working from the rooms you don't use toward the ones you do.

Week 1: Storage, Guest Room, Basement, Garage

Start where nothing is urgent. Basement and garage take longest and hide the most, so don't leave them for the end. Label every tote with the room it's going to in the new house.

Week 1–2: Living Areas and Second Kitchen Items

Books, decor, media, spare linens, and the kitchen equipment you won't touch before moving — the stand mixer, serving pieces, the second set of dishes, most of the pantry.

Week 2: Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Off-season clothes and closet shelves first, then most of each bathroom into one marked tote with liquids bagged. Leave out a week of clothes and one set of sheets per bed.

Last 2 Days: Daily Kitchen, Toiletries, Bedding

The coffee maker, the last plates and pans, chargers, and bedding. Pack a 'first day' tote per person that rides in your car.
