Framed pieces and mirrors are among the easiest things to damage in a move because they're flat, heavy in the corners, and tempting to lay down and stack. A few steps prevent almost all of it.
Tape an X Across the Glass
Run painter's tape in an X across the front of any glass. It won't stop a break, but it holds the shards together and keeps them from slicing the art or the mover if the glass does crack.
Wrap Corners First, Then the Whole Piece
Corner protectors (or folded cardboard) go on first, then a full wrap in packing paper or a moving blanket, then bubble wrap for anything valuable. Tape the wrap to itself, never to the frame or the art.
Pack Vertically, On Edge, Never Flat
Framed pieces and mirrors ride on their edge like records in a crate, snug between padding, standing upright in the truck. Laid flat and stacked, the bottom one cracks under the weight.
Small Frames Can Go in Totes
Smaller framed photos can be wrapped individually and stood on edge inside a tote, packed tightly so nothing shifts, with soft items filling the gaps. Large pieces need a picture box or blanket-wrap.
