Moving day goes smoothly when the decisions are already made. By the time the truck or the movers arrive, everything should be packed, labeled, and staged.
Before Anyone Arrives
Totes closed and stacked by the door, grouped by destination room. Path from door to driveway clear. Floors protected. Phones charged. A cooler with water and snacks. Cash for tips if you're using movers.
As the Truck Loads
Station one person at the door to tell movers which room each tote goes to — your labels do most of the work. Heavy and fragile totes get called out. Keep your 'rides with me' pile in your car, not the truck.
Before You Leave the Old Place
Walk every room, closet, cabinet, and the basement, garage, and attic. Check behind doors. Photograph the empty rooms and meter readings. Leave keys, garage remotes, and any manuals where you agreed.
At the New Place
Direct totes to the right rooms as they come off the truck. Set up beds first. Find the 'open first' totes. Locate the water shutoff and electrical panel before you unpack anything else.
Have totes delivered ahead of time so move day starts with everything packed and labeled.

Pack and stage everything before the truck. Post someone at the door to direct totes by room. Sweep every space before you leave. Set up beds and find utilities first at the new place.
