Where People Land
Lakefront and North Shore communities like Highland Park and Lake Forest; commuter towns along the Metra Milwaukee District North and Union Pacific North lines like Libertyville, Lake Forest, and Waukegan; and more spacious, newer subdivisions further west around Grayslake, Gurnee, and Vernon Hills.
Getting Around
Two Metra lines run to downtown Chicago, the Tri-State (I-94) and US-41 handle north–south car commutes, and O'Hare is 30–45 minutes from most of the county. Naval Station Great Lakes is a major local employer near North Chicago.
Before Move Day
Set utility start dates 2–3 weeks out, update your license and registration within the state deadline, and check the town or village site for water, trash, and any vehicle sticker requirements.
