Many people tip $5–$10 per mover per hour, or roughly $20–$60 per mover for a full day, handed to each person directly rather than lumped to the foreman.
When to Tip More
Stairs, heavy or awkward pieces, a long carry, extreme heat or cold, obvious care with your belongings, or a crew that finished faster than quoted — any of these justify the top of the range or above.
It's Fine to Tip Less or Not at All
Late arrival, damage, carelessness, or a crew that seemed to stretch the clock are all reasons to tip low or skip it. The tip is for service, not a line item you owe.
If You Rent Totes and Move Yourself
There's no crew to tip — you've swapped the labor cost for your own time and a flat rental fee. If friends help, feed them well, cover gas, and return the favor. That's the going rate.
